DAY#172 - nike+
Today, armed with my new NIKE + IPOD SPORT KIT
and my iPhone I ran. I must say I am happy with the performance of my little Nike friend. I attached him to my non-Nile sneaker using a velcro case and he worked like a wonder. He even got along nicely with my c25k program and both ran at the same time.
It was nice to have an instant read-out in my ear of my pace, distance ran and time when i wanted it. Since I left the treadmill behind last week I kinda missed the immediate gratification that the display on the treadmill provided. However, now with my Nike sensor on my sneaker and my iPhone strapped to my arm I am in immediate feedback heaven. That encouraged me to break from my c25k training today and I ran a mile straight just to see what kinda pace I was running at. Now, I must say I didn't kill myself but tried to keep a steady pace so I could finish the rest of my workout. So I did a mile with a pace of 13 minutes. I was pretty happy with that. I completed my entire workout of 2.5 miles at a pace of 14'36", so faster than 4mph. w00t!
Logging onto the nikeplus.com website was an ok experience that site i felt was s smidge slow but once it started cranking out info It was pretty cool. It showed me how my pace varied with my workout and distance. Not exactly sure how I will sue this to benefit me, but it was cool none the less. So a $35 investment (sensor & velcro case) a first look seems to be worth every penny. I can't wait to go running again.
Now that I have tasted the info provided by nike+, I am being tempted by a new exercise tool. This morning when I got to my computer, Amazon had send me their deal of the day. They are selling a Gruve
for half price in their gold box deal of the day. I had never heard of it before but you attach it to your waist band and it keeps track of all your daily activities, connects to the internet and gives you feedback about your lifestyle. It also encourages you throughout the day to get more body movement in your routine by offering feedback. It looks tempting to me. I haven't ordered it yet, but I am thinking about it.
