The struggle to become half the man i used to be . . .  


DAY#210 - 2 5K OR NOT 2 5K
My run on Saturday went off without a hitch, well almost. For all the fretting I did regarding it, it ended up being a good experience. My only hang up was my sneaker became untied and I needed to stop 75% of the way through the race to tie it. The fun sensation of bending over to tie your sneaker after running is quite the head trip.

My family was uber supportive and it was nice to have them cheering me on. It was also great to have my 3 oldest running the race. I finished with a time of 34'56" which was my best 5k to date and I wasn't last :)

Now that it is over. . . I thought through my experience and made some mental notes for the future. . .

1. Be careful that the adrenaline and the pace of the other runners does not mess up your pace. I started out way to fast and felt it half way through.

2. I shouldn't have pushed myself on my last training run before the race. I think easy does it would have been a better approach and an extra day of rest would have left me in a happier spot.

3. trying to drink water while running is an art form that will take practice to master. I have never drank any water while running before and my first attempt at having a swallow of water that some nice race volunteer handed to me went really wrong. I thought I may just gag to death.

4. Next time. . . relax it all will go fine and the people at the race were very supportive and nice.


So will i do it again? Yes I will. I have already decided to run one more 5K before the end of the year. I picked the Jingle bell run/walk in Harrisburg on December 11, 2010. I even made a team (The one ton gorillas) and am inviting anyone who reads my blog to join me. It would be cool to find 10 people to run.

Wanna challenge yourself? The 5k is 8 weeks away, that is plenty of time to go form you couch to running one. That is about how long it took me and my kiddos to gets our acts together, so you are not too late. And if you are faster than me? feel free to sign up I won;t make you run next to me, that would freak me out anyway. :)
However if you do join me you will have to wear at least one jingle on your body somewhere. Ok, so sign up already!

In other news while I am inviting people to join me on a 5k. I also want to let you know I am planning on starting Round 2 of HCG the first week of January. Seems far away but I checked my calendar and it really is less than 90 days. So if you are interested in doing a round of HCG at the same time as me, mark your calendar and let me know. I will start blogging about my preparations (buying supplies) for it in December. Anyway feel free to join me the more the merrier.
