DAY#318 - Family Game Night
My family likes to play games. We don't get to do it as often as we like cause we are busy with a million other things but when we do it is fun. And like everything else in our lives games involve food. You can;t play games without a snack can you? Some chips or pretzels and then something sweet to even out the saltiness? Family, Food and Fun. right?
Well the past few nights this week we have been playing games and we all made a conscious decision to do it without food. The first night it was a bit odd. There were a few complaints of "I could snack on something" but we still had fun . Fellowshipping and playing the game is the fun right? Well we have now made it a few nights without snacks at the table while playing games and playing games without food can be fun too. But it is crazy the mental associations and expectations we give ourselves are not easy 'traditions' to break.
For what it is worth we have a few games we are loving. For my young ones ages 4 & 6, The two games of choice right now are Sleeping Queens and Too Many Monkeys. Both are cute cards games that can be found for less than $10. Not only do the kiddos love it they are educational and even the older kids and grownups enjoy them. For the older kids our game of choice is Dominion, love the game, quick to learn, never the same game twice cause you can change the dynamics each time, and most games take 30 minutes or less so you can squeeze in a quick one or play a few times in a row. Love them, worth every penny!
