DAY#39 - Veggie Share
Last year when I was feeling spontaneous and health conscious I joined a veggie share for this year. Sometimes my spur of the moment decisions are my worst, but I must say I am excited about this one!
To me a veggie share was what i needed when I was 5 and would have liked to have shared hlaf my veggies with the family dog. So what is a veggie share really? I am sure they are set up a bunch of different ways, but the one I joined works like this. For $X a week we get a share of a friends garden. They do the work and harvest the veggies and we pay them for their fresh produce. They make money, I get fresh from the garden veggies.
I am stoked. The first harvest is due within the next two weeks and I am expecting the early spring crops: spinach, lettuce, radishes, spring onions, chives and oregano. This will eventually evolve into lettuce, spinach, green and yellow beans, potatoes, carrots, onions, zucchini, squash, beets, bell peppers, tomatoes, fennel, cucumbers, and bunches different herbs by mid-summer. On top of that a fresh flower bouquet comes weekly with each share. Not sure I can eat the flowers, but that will make my wife happy.
Nothing tastes better then fresh from your garden veggies. To top that if I can still get them fresh without the work, w00t! And working hard to put good healthy food on the table just got easier. Here is a toast to my spontaneous decision last year! I am looking forward to good delicious meals all summer long!
Tomorrow is check in day and I am feeling great! Hopefully Mr. scale will corroborate.
