DAY#7 - GOLDS
My father called them GOLDS, for some reason he always got tongue-tied over the word goals and golds slipped out. He hated it, but it was who he was. He taught Sunday School 5th-6th grade every week for many years. One Sunday in particular the lesson was about goals. He spent the whole week practicing the word goals, but gold would still slip out. Makes me chuckle as I remember it. I miss him.
My father's linguistic hurdle was was closer to the truth than not. Goals are as precious as GOLD. Without goals it is much harder to get things accomplished. I achieve more with focus. One of my favorite and convicting Bible verses that i think touches this subjet is:
1 Corinthians 9:24-27:
24 Don't you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
Ouch on both physical & spiritual levels.
So as far as loosing weight goes I have set some goals both short and long term. My short term 'gold' for this week is simple. Keep doing what I have been AND I want to cut down on my ice tea consumption. Currently, I crave diet green tea from Turkey Hill. It is God's gift to me. I am really not sure what effect it is having on me so I am going to work at cutting my consumption to less than half this week with the goal of total elimination soon.
I have long range goals too. I plan on sharing them shorty. I think you will be amused. Thanks for your support.
